The End . . .

We looked after Pebbles and Bam-Bam for a while after our last post. They’ve moved on . . . We don’t see them anymore. Their food bowl would sit for days untouched. People accused us of abandoning the cats . . . We received an email saying: “GOOD LUCK PROVING TO THE AUTHORITIES THAT YOU DIDN’T ABANDON THOSE CATS!” WE DIDN’T! NEITHER ONE OF US WOULD EVER ABANDON AN ANIMAL! Shitty thing to say. Bullies.

Hope all is well with Alley and her brood. We wish the best of luck to her and her babies. Alley is a wonderful cat. We miss her; but we are glad she’s not living in an incinerator anymore! She deserves better. Here’s to a life of leisure, Alley . . . All the best . . .

THE END

Alley

September 1st – 3rd

Labor Day weekend and the weather was nice. We checked on Pebbles and Bam-Bam as usual. On Sunday, as we stood at the ledge watching Bam-Bam eat from a can of food, a red jeep pulled up behind us and killed the engine. A couple was seated up front and a young girl in the back. ‘You feeding these guys?’ asked the guy driving. We told him we were. He told us how there was a momma cat and six kittens back here last week. Him and his wife talked to somebody they knew who ran a private rescue and Alley and The Newbies got swooped up. Talk about being in the right place at the right time! Mystery solved. They also mentioned Pebbles and Bam-Bam to the rescue people but they couldn’t find them. Those two are a bit on the feral side, in my humble opinion. They don’t want people coming near them. We both hope Alley and The Newbies are happy and doing okay. We’re going to try and find out more. No Nessie sightings in a few days. I wonder if that little guy moved on.

To be continued . . .

No Bam-Bam tonight. Nessie came out and made an appearance. He kept his distance across the street. Pebbles came out and rolled around on the ground right by the ledge. Then he hopped up to eat. The bowls were still pretty full. We were trying to think of something to put by the  incinerator to commemorate Alley. We thought it would be a good thing to do. That and look after her two boys.

Jen called the local animal shelter today. Alley and The Newbies are not there. That brought us some relief. We don’t have to worry about her and the newborns being euthanized. We checked the bulletin board in the grocery store to see if there was a cat found flyer. There wasn’t. We’re still trolling around on the magic box to see if she is posted somewhere. I have some theories about her existence back there, a lot of things I never thought of before; but I’ll go into that at another time. We checked on Pebbles and Bam-Bam. Their food and water bowls were barely touched. They seemed on edge. They wouldn’t come anywhere near us. We cleaned and topped everything off and left them a can of wet food on the ledge. I found two empty food cans that I didn’t notice since she’s been gone. One was turkey and giblets, the other chicken and gravy. Both of Alley’s favorites and not the brand we gave her. Odd coincidence? When we were walking away, we saw that Pebbles and Bam-Bam were up on the ledge eating. Poor guys.

My stomach sank as we waited to cross the road tonight. It’s hard to believe we’ll never see Alley running up the street again. We went back to fill up the bowls for Pebbles and Bam-Bam. It’s so empty and sad back there now. I kept hoping Alley would pop out from the woods, or come out of nowhere from around a corner like she’d done from time to time. Pebbles and Bam-Bam came up on the ledge and we fed them a can of the turkey and giblets that Alley liked so much. We can’t spoon feed them though. Bam-Bam let Jen pet him a little bit. Pebbles was very skittish, as he usually is. No sign of Nessie. We’ll probably see him soon, as we’re going to keep checking on the boys. We got all the hours and information for the local animal shelter tonight. We’re going to call tomorrow and see if she’s there. That’s all we can do for now.

No Alley when we walked over tonight. Their bowls were pulled out of the incinerator. The box we left up top was on the ledge. We walked around and called for Alley . . . Nothing. No sign of The Newbies. Pebbles and Bam-Bam ran around in the street. We put food and water in their bowls. Those little guys need something to eat. We hope the local Animal Control didn’t find Alley and The Newbies. That means they could be dead in 7 days. We hope that somebody took them in. Pebbles followed us home and yelled at us the whole way. Jen was sobbing as we walked. We wanted Alley and her brood to find a home. We knew this could happen . . .

August 26th, 2012

Got over there tonight and it was very quiet. Alley came running up to us, but Pebbles Bam-Bam and Nessie were not around. We fed Alley at the ledge and noticed an empty can of food. Somebody else fed her. We were glad to see that. I walked around looking for the others and called for them. They were nowhere to be seen. We shined a light into the incinerator and The Newbies weren’t in there. We wondered what was going on. I went around the side of the incinerator, because sometimes Pebbles and Bam-Bam go over there to hang out in the shade. I saw a tiny little kitten face sticking out of the weeds. It squeaked at me. All of The Newbies were over there hiding out. There are six of them. They were climbing all over each other in a little heap and squeaking. A few of them actually came up to us and let us hold them. I’d never seen kittens that small before. They moved slowly and were shaky on their feet. It was an extra long visit tonight and very hard to leave. I couldn’t get over how The Newbies were coming up to us. They’re a courageous little bunch.

Pebbles and Bam-Bam were out chasing each other around in the empty lot when we went over. Alley was hanging out on the ledge. The Newbies were squeaking away in the incinerator. Saw Nessie tonight. He came out of the woods when we got over there and started running around with the other two. I don’t know what gets those three so jazzed up. They are funny to watch.

August 23rd, 2012

We went over a little later than usual tonight. Alley and Bam-Bam were at the ledge. Pebbles was trying to find a spot under the fence to get out of the woods. He was back there yelling in high pitched meows. Bam-Bam heard him and ran over to the fence by the spot where they usually come out. Pebbles popped out of the groundhog tunnel and they both looked like they were shot out of a cannon. They flew over to the ledge and jumped right up. They were all really hungry tonight. I don’t know what they’d been doing today, but the only time we’ve seen them like that is if we miss a day. Pebbles and Bam-Bam took turns licking the empty wet food can while Alley raided the dry food bowl. Bam-Bam let Jen pet him tonight. He didn’t freak out and run, just inched away after a while. The Newbies were still doing their thing down under–crawling all over each other and squeaking. No sign of Nessie again. I’m sure we’ll have another sighting some time soon.
